Tyler Songwriters Festival

The Tyler Songwriters Festival's Workshop is a day-long dive into what makes a song great and how to write one. It consists of two parts:

· An interactive workshop lead by two experienced writers

· A Songwriters round featuring top songwriters from our area

Songwriting Workshop

The workshop is will be conducted by Connie Mims Pinkerton and Randy Morrison. It is designed for both beginning and seasoned songwriters, as well as for the song enthusiast, with a desire to examine and explore the building blocks of songwriting, including song structure, lyrical content, melodic composition and rhythm and tempo. Using song examples furnished by the participants, the workshop will be interactive with lecture and demonstration segments, with an immersive creative writing exercise for the participants to enjoy and share with the others in attendance.

• Making Memorable Melodies
• Rhythms & Grooves
• Co-Writing & Pitching to Artists and Publishers
• Maintaining Inspiration & Seeking Community

The Songwriters festival also features a “songwriters in the round” performance by some of the best and most accomplished songwriters in the area. This “listening room” format is unique, similar to writer’s rounds at venues you will find in larger music cities such as Nashville or Austin. This event will be held at The Listening Lounge at 130 Shelley Drive in Tyler. Doors open at 7:30 and performance starts at 8:00 pm. Limited seating is available to attend the Writers Round. You do not have to purchase tickets to the workshop to attend the Writer’s Round. Scheduled writers include:

WHAT IS A SONGWRITER’S ROUND?

A songwriter’s round is where a group of 3-4 songwriters gather together to tell the behind-the-scenes stories of how their songs came to life and then perform the songs acoustically. Each writer will typically do a song, and then the next writer will do a song and so-on until each writer has performed about 3 songs.
